Tasting - "Domaine de Grange de Payan"

  • Domaine de Grange de Payan
  • Grenache (majority, about 80% according to The Vintage Cellar)
  • Cotes du Rhone
  • France
  • 2011
  • $8.95
  • Wine critics say this red is intensely spicy and precise, with lively red berry flavors and hints of black pepper. The Grenache is deeper and more powerful, with cherry and black raspberry qualities lifted by zesty minerality.
  • I found this Domaine de Grange de Payan to be a Grenache that I don't care for. I felt the balance was off. On the palate, it was a bit more fruity at first, with notes of raspberry and cherry. From the mid-palate to the finish it gave off more of a spicy pepper flavor.
  • I did not taste with food.
